NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A family is opening up about the impact of mental illness after their loved one was arrested for threatening mass violence in downtown Nashville.
Over the last few months, Diane Smithey says she has been trying to get mental health treatment for her brother but has not been successful.

“I’ve hit brick wall after brick wall,” Smithey explained. “I have done everything that I know to do because I can’t break that promise to my dad.”
Smithey’s brother, 53-year-old Phillip Anderson Jr., was arrested after Metro Police say he threatened to shoot officers and run over pedestrians on Broadway.
