A young man has been killed and another is in hospital after a stabbing in Hobart’s popular Salamanca precinct.
Police say an altercation broke out between two groups of people in a carpark on Morrison St, off the city’s Salamanca Place, at about midnight on Sunday.
Two men were stabbed during the fight. One of the men, aged 20, died from his injuries.
The other man, aged 23, remains in hospital receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
A 20-year-old man is in custody and assisting police.
Police believe it was an isolated incident, potentially linked to a previous incident involving a person from each group.
Investigations are ongoing and police are following several lines of inquiry to locate the other people believed to have been involved.
