A Midland policing shake-up that would see PCSOs finish work an hour earlier could hit community safety, an MP said.

Staffordshire Police is considering fresh shift arrangements for its community support officers that would see more working during daylight hours, but with the final shift finishing at 9pm rather than 10pm.

The force maintained the review was 'data-driven' and would result in a stronger police presence during peak hours when schools, shops and public spaces were busiest. It accepted the change would save money but insisted it was not the primary motivation.
