Villagers could be "trapped" for nearly a fortnight due to roadworks, a councillor has claimed. Gloucestershire Highways plans to shut roads leading to and around Elkstone this week for carriageway resurfacing.

The work was due to begin on Thursday, October 23, and continue for 12 days, excluding weekends, until November 7. A temporary traffic order indicated the closures will be in effect from 7am to 7pm.

Conservative councillor Julia Judd (Ermin), who represents the area on Cotswold District Council, branded the situation ludicrous and said residents would essentially be confined to the village during daylight hours.
