Protesters have paddled out to some of Australia’s most iconic landmarks to demand the government halt any further coal and gas projects.

Activist group Rising Tide on Sunday packed into a fleet of kayaks and paddled out onto Sydney Harbour.

Some wielded signs stating “no new coal + gas”, with one duct taping a paper with “stop burning our kids future” onto their back.

Photos captured them with their paddles up in the air in front of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, with the event essentially a practice run for a blockade in Newcastle.

The group are planning a third blockade at the Newcastle Coal Port at the end of November.

It’s the largest coal port in the world, with Rising Tide organiser Zack Schofield pushing for an end to coal and gas expansion.
