Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has insisted her government’s machete laws are “working” despite three incidents occurring in Broadmeadows in just four days.

Police were called to reports of a brawl in the northern Melbourne suburb at about 9.30pm on Saturday after a group of men armed with machetes were seen fighting on Cuthbert and Joffre streets.

The alleged offenders fled the scene prior to police arriving, but a short time later a 19-year-old was located with stab wounds at the corner of nearby Kitchener and Goulburn streets.

The teenage male was taken to hospital with serious injuries and police are investigating whether the incidents are linked.
