A talented four-year-old is set to return with a bang and upset more fancied market rivals at Monday’s Newcastle meeting on the Beaumont track.
Southerly Buster is a lightly raced son of Group 1-winning French sire Vadamoss, and could cap a big day for the Scone-based Scott Singleton stable in a Benchmark 66 Hcp over 1350m to close the program.
The gelding hasn’t raced since early June when winning the second of two straight races in a Class 1 at Warren to cap an encouraging initial campaign.
Given plenty of time, he finished off nicely in a competitive Scone trial a fortnight ago after drifting well back and covering plenty of ground for much of the journey.
It was the effort of a galloper well-fitted to run this distance out fresh, and ultimately get over far more ground.
