Universal Credit recipients are set to see a £312 annual increase in 2026, outstripping inflation due to a change in legislation. Universal Credit is the most claimed benefit, apart from the state pension, with 7.5 million claimants in the UK, including those who use it as a top-up to their wages.
All benefits rise annually in line with inflation, but in 2026 an additional 2.3% uplift on top of inflation will be added to Universal Credit due to this year's legislative change, the Universal Credit Act 2025. This act stipulates that the benefit will increase more than inflation each year until 2030.
