PLAINFIELD, Ind. — The crowd applauded local veterans in the Plainfield High School gym Saturday night.
Eighty six veterans traveled to Washington, D.C. on the 48th Indy Honor Flight.
For Vietnam and U.S. Army veteran Ray Sohl, the trip to D.C. was special. He recommends the honor flight so others can go see the monuments made to honor their service.
"Vietnam to me, recognizing names of people I know from home as well as people who I was with—it's an experience that you never forget," Sohl said.
Most of the veterans on the Indy Honor Flight were in the Vietnam War and Korean War. One 99-year-old man was in World War II.
These honor flights recognize veterans for their service. Organizers said many of them did not get that public recognition before.
