Travelling to Steinbach recently, I saw lots of wet fields, tracks full of water, and corn, soybeans, and even some standing canola still in the fields. I’ve seen many wet fields in my lifetime, but the ones I saw on that drive are among the wettest — especially in October and harvest time. Yes, overall 97% of the crops are in the bin, but for those wet fields and the farmers who own them, it is a trying and difficult task. Before the days of tracks instead of dual wheels and sometimes triple wheels, it was almost impossible to take off the crop in such wet conditions.
