Three women with three things in common — young children, a desire to make a difference in the community and a lot of energy — have opened The CubHouse, a “play café” for young children and their caregivers, in the heart of downtown Oroville.

The trio — Nicole Gilman, Sierra Ruedi and Robin Rodriguez — are all congregants of Kingdom Community Church. All homeschool their children and all were frustrated by the limited number of “safe and welcoming” places in Butte County where they could go and “organically meet other moms and kids could play,” said Gilman.

“We’re passionate about children and wanting to see more in the community for young children,” said Gilman. “There are mom groups online and some great meet-up groups but no place to just go, especially when it’s raining or hot, to me
