DETROIT ― It was a pretty solemn scene in the visiting clubhouse at T-Mobile Park in Seattle late in the evening of Oct. 10, following the heart-wrenching end to the Tigers’ 2025 season.

Players spoke barely above a whisper; some picked at plates of food, others sipped on a beer. There weren’t, as you can imagine, a whole lot of smiles.

“Yeah,” Jones said, in a chat with The Detroit News. “Of course.”

The Mariners’ pitching staff isn’t very left-heavy, and so Jones’ role in the five-game American League Division was limited to just three plate appearances ― he had a double and two walks.

But Jones’ impact on the Tigers’ season won’t soon be forgotten, by himself or the Tigers, who signed him last winter on a minor-league contract with an invitation to big-league camp.
