A snow barrage was forecast to hit the UK within days as temperatures plummet.
Weather maps show up to 3cm of snow falling per hour over parts of Scotland.
Tuesday night's snowfall could also being a risk of icy conditions, The Express reports.

The weather maps from WXCharts predicts snow will fall over Scotland from midnight.
As this happens, the majority of England, down to Cambridgeshire, will be battered with rain.
It is expected the snow will fall until at least 3am, although the rain will have moved eastward, leaving large parts of the north of England dry, and the Midlands in the firing line.
