LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is highlighting the importance of using safe practices when tucking an infant in for restful night's sleep during Infant Safe Sleep Awareness Month.
Safe sleep practices help reduce the risk of sleep-related injuries or death in infants by providing a safe and secure sleep space.
MDHHS reports that a sleep-related infant death occurs every two to three days on average in Michigan.
"Safe sleep isn't just a routine, it's a powerful tool to prevent infant deaths," said Elizabeth Hertel, MDHHS director, in a news release sent to 6 News.
