Early Friday morning in Chinnatekur, Kurnool, a Vemuri Kaveri bus caught fire, killing 20 passengers. The victims were from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, and Bihar. The fire was so severe that identifying the bodies was very difficult.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu quickly took charge. Even though some officials were on leave, he ensured that police, medical, and revenue staff worked immediately to help the victims’ families. A special lab was set up in Mangalagiri to complete DNA tests, and by Sunday evening, 18 bodies were identified and handed to their families.

The government arranged special ambulances to take the bodies safely to different states. They also gave compensation of ₹5 lakh to each family and issued death certificates on the spot.
