Halloween came a little early to Belleville with thousands of parents and their children garbed in festive costumes hunting for candy on Saturday afternoon.

But they weren’t scouring city neighbourhoods and banging on doors on the perennial nighttime pilgrimage for gummie bears and candy apples.

Rather, one immense lineup of families snaked through the northern reaches of Quinte Mall parking lot to take part in Trunk or Treat, a free community event hosted by Exit Realty Group.

Up to 26 vehicles from Quinte businesses, community groups and Belleville police took part with their vehicle trunks open to offer families candy, goodies, cookies, restaurant discount coupons from Boston Pizza and Lone Star as well as brochures and corporate freebies.
