OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KSWB/KUSI) -- All it took was one wave to change Scott Muir’s life.
A husband, father of two, and 12-year U.S. Air Force veteran, Muir had been surfing nearly all his life. But on the morning of September 28, what started as a calm Sunday surf in Oceanside, California, quickly turned into a fight for survival.
“My first words were, ‘Who pulled me out of the water? Who saved me?’” Muir recalled. “I just see Judah’s face pop over, and I said, ‘Dude, you saved my life.’”
That 19-year-old was Judah Ely, a young surfer who happened to be nearby when Muir went under.
Moments earlier, Muir had been joking around with a pair of teenage surfers, competing for position in the waves.
