In another major surrender of Maoists in bulk, 21 Maoists including 13 women gave up violence with 18 weapons in Kanker district of Bastar division in Chhattisgarh on Sunday. The cadres, who were part of the Keshkal division (North Sub-Zonal Bureau), laid down arms under the state’s flagship ‘Poona Margham: Rehabilitation through Reintegration’ initiative, aimed at helping Maoists return to mainstream life. Bastar range inspector general of police P Sundarraj had earlier stated that there were few Maoist groups left in Keshkal division and South Bastar, and the anti-Naxal operations will be focussed on those areas.
