Kirk Cousins is set to start for the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
The backup quarterback is replacing Michael Penix Jr ., who is recovering from a knee injury sustained in last week's loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Cousin's introduction comes as Penix was limited in practice the past two days and on Friday was listed as questionable for Sunday's game.
The second-year QB was then ruled out during the announcement of pregame inactives.
Falcons head coach Raheem Morris cut an optimistic figure in his pre-game press conference when asked about Cousins.
"I'm really confident in our backup," Morris said Friday of Cousins.
"We're going to give [Penix] every opportunity we can give him. The kid is tough. He's a guy. He's a stud."
