A major UK motorway is set to stay closed overnight after a car crash sparked a huge emergency services response.

The M6 has been shut in both directions this evening following a serious collision, with police and paramedics at the scene between junctions 27 and 28 near Standish, Greater Manchester.

A full closure is currently in place along with diversion routes.
