SHELBYVILLE, Ill. — This season’s big swings in precipitation are evident at harvest.

Elliott Uphoff farms 2,000 acres of corn and soybeans near Shelbyville in central Illinois. He said the wet spring and dry fall have made for an interesting growing season

“It’s been a pretty OK season,” he said. “We’ve had minimal breakdowns.”

He said they were seeing beans in the 19-22% range for moisture and because of that had to slow down at times to wait for them to dry down.

“Beans were good until we had three to four 90-degree days,” Uphoff said. “The corn we wish was a little wetter.”

Uphoff expected to complete harvest in mid-October, but he had a long list of tasks waiting for him after the crop was put away.
