The struggling LSU Tigers have decided to pull the plug on the Brian Kelly era.
Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, LSU informed Brian Kelly earlier today that he’s been let go. The move comes after an ugly 49-25 loss to No. 3 ranked Texas A&M, the Tigers’ third defeat in four games.
An interim head coach has not been named.
According to Thamel, the two sides are still discussing Kelly’s buyout, as he’s owed over $54 million on his contract that runs through 2031.
The Tigers hired Brian Kelly as their new head coach in 2022, following the departure of national championship-winning HC Ed Orgeron. LSU went 34-14-0 during Kelly’s three and a half seasons on the job.
