LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The federal government shutdown entered its 26th day on Sunday with no resolution in sight, leaving hundreds of thousands of Americans – including Kentuckians – grappling with missed paychecks and uncertainty about essential benefits.
Federal employees like Transportation Security Administration agents and air traffic controllers went another week without pay as the funding impasse continues. Many are seeing temporary work or assistance to cover rent, utilities and other expenses.
Earlier this week, the USDA announced funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, would not be available beyond Nov. 1. This lapse could leave more than 600,000 Kentuckians without food assistance as the holidays approach.
