A 32-year-old Toronto man has been charged with assault after an autistic man was injured during an altercation last month in Etobicoke.

Toronto Police said they responded to an assault call Sept. 12 at about 4:15 p.m. in the Kipling Ave.-The Queensway area after the victim was walking on a sidewalk before the suspect, who was walking a dog, approached the victim and engaged with him verbally.

Police said the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim and continued the assault after the victim fell before fleeing.

Andrew Memrik was arrested and charged with assault.

Earlier this month, lawyer David Costa, who is representing a 24-year-old autistic man, Brian Huang, told the Toronto Sun that his client had a “misunderstanding” over another man’s dog.
