The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that the deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and southwest Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclonic storm ‘Montha’.
In its 25th bulletin, issued at 2:24 a.m. on Monday, the IMD confirmed the intensification of the weather system. The IMD also issued a Red Alert for several coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh for Monday, October 27. The storm is forecast to strengthen further into a severe cyclonic storm before making landfall late on Tuesday.
By 2:30 a.m. on Monday, the storm had tracked west-northwestwards at a speed of 16 kmph over the preceding three hours. Its revised central position was about 600 km east-southeast of Chennai and 680 km south-southeast of Kakinada. The storm was also 710 km south-southeast of Visakha
