BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The federal government shutdown has stretched to day 26, with no agreement reached in Washington to restore funding.
Federal agencies have scaled back operations, leaving thousands of workers nationwide without pay. Essential employees continue to work, but many are doing so without knowing when they will receive their next paycheck.
Local leaders say people in Alabama are feeling the consequences.
