Dear Coleen

I get really frustrated with my husband’s sister who is 24 and doing nothing with her life. ‌

I feel my in-laws make excuses for her all the time, which isn’t helping her. Their narrative is she’s “painfully shy”, so struggles with confidence when it comes to job interviews and social situations. ‌

Whenever we’re all together, the focus is always on her: “Is she OK?”, “Go and talk to her” and so on. It drives me nuts because I think her mum and dad enable the attention-seeking instead of encouraging her to come out of her shell. ‌

She’s super-reliant on my husband, who’s six years older, but I think he’s all out of advice and, honestly, it’s draining .
