Jurors, the prosecution and the joint defense are expected back in court Monday morning for the third full week in a high-profile murder trial.

Presiding Judge Ron Rangel instituted a day off on Friday after 10 days’ worth of court proceedings in the June 2023 murder of Melissa Perez at her Southwest Side apartment.

Ex-SAPD officers Eleazar Alejandro, Alfred Flores and Nathaniel Villalobos are on trial for the shooting death of Perez, 46.

The department has since terminated Alejandro, Flores and Villalobos from the force.
