A childcare provider has been fined $28,000 after two children became lost at a zoo and others were left unsupervised while teachers looked for them.

TheirCare took a group of 12 children to Perth Zoo on September 30 last year, when two children aged 5 and 6 became separated from the group.

The childcare centre is an education and care service attached to Floreat Park Primary School in Perth’s western suburbs.

Two teachers each supervised a group of six children on a particularly busy day at Perth Zoo, which recorded its highest number of visitors ever due to the government’s free ticket scheme.

CCTV footage showed two children became separated from one of the groups while the teacher walked with her head down at the front.
