The bombings in May 1974 killed 33 civilians and injured almost 300 – it was the deadliest attack in the Republic’s history.

Three car bombs exploded in Dublin during rush hour and a fourth exploded in Monaghan almost 90 minutes later.

The information has been revealed as part of Operation Denton – a review into the potential involvement of informants in the murder of civilians.

New details have also been revealed on how a call warning of the attacks was made to a Kildare Garda station just moments before the first explosion.
