President Donald Trump said he underwent an MRI scan during his recent checkup at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
The 79-year-old president went to the hospital Oct. 10 for his second exam since returning to the White House in January, and he told reporters Monday morning aboard Air Force One that doctors had offered them a “very conclusive” report of the exam that had previously been unknown, reported CNN.
“I did, I got an MRI – it was perfect,” Trump told reporters as they traveled from Malaysia to Japan. “I gave you the full results. We had an MRI, and the machine, you know, the whole thing, and it was perfect."
Trump, who's one of the oldest president's in history, did not say why doctors ordered the MRI exam and suggested that reporters ask his physicians themselves.
“I think they gave you a very conclusive – nobody has ever given you reports like I gave you, and if I didn’t think it was going to be good, either, I would let you know negatively, I wouldn’t run," Trump said. "I’d do something, but the doctor said some of the best reports for the age, some of the best reports they’ve ever seen."
His first visit to Walter Reed, back in April, included cognitive and cardiology tests, but the White House did not disclose a reason for the second visit.
The White House announced over the summer that Trump was examined for swelling in his legs and has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, which can cause swelling in the lower legs or ankles, aching or cramping in the legs, varicose veins, pain or changes to the skin.
The president has also apparently covered up regular bruising on his right hand with heavy makeup, which White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella has blamed on a combination of “frequent handshaking” and aspirin use, which can increase bruising.
Doctors order magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI exams, to diagnose conditions such as tumors, heart disease and injuries to soft tissues, including the brain.
MRI exams can help doctors diagnose conditions common in aging, including strokes and dementia.
