PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A woman is dead after being shot at a Phoenix apartment on Sunday.

Police say they responded to Phoenix Manor near 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road around just before 5 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

When officers got on scene, they found a woman who had been shot. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where she later died.

Lawanda Holdbrook heard gunfire while she was inside her apartment nearby. She ran outside and found one of her neighbors lying on the ground and called 911.

“The guy, I think it’s her son, was still yelling ‘Help! Help!’ I immediately told them the direct address, what the building we was in. I didn’t see the perpetrator, I just heard a loud noise that I thought was somebody falling,” said Holdbrook.
