DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks are honoring a franchise legend.
The team on Monday announced it will retire Mark Aguirre's No. 24 jersey in a ceremony on Jan. 29, 2026. It is the fifth number the team has retired throughout its history, since joining the NBA in 1980.
Aguirre was the club's first-ever No. 1 overall pick -- and the only one before Cooper Flagg was drafted this year -- in 1981.
A DePaul product, the 6-foot-6 small forward was an immediate scoring threat for the 1980s-era Mavericks, averaging 24.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game in eight seasons in Dallas.
The Mavericks traded Aguirre to the Detroit Pistons during the 1989 season -- his eighth with the team.
“As we look back on 45 years of this franchise, it is a great honor to recognize one of our legend
