HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Central Nebraska Medical Reserve Corps is receiving national recognition for their one-of-a-kind emergency response program.
They call it the Vulnerable Identified Population Evacuation Response, or V.I.P.E.R for short.
The team responds to emergency situations that may have vulnerable populations present such as elderly or pregnant people. With the equipment in their trailer, they help those people until they can find temporary housing.
Adams County Emergency Manager Ron Pughes said this came as a response to both local and national incidents.
“It kind of spurred from the floods in Florida and evacuating nursing homes to a fire right here locally in Hastings where we were evacuating a displaced population who had mobile issues,” Pughes said. “An elderly pop
