CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Jamaica and several other Caribbean islands are bracing for what could be a catastrophic impact from Hurricane Melissa a massive Category 5 storm expected to make landfall late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.
Forecasters say the storm will bring dangerous winds, rainfall, flooding, and potential landslides, leaving behind widespread destruction across the island.
While the Caribbean braces for the worst, Lowcountry-based aid groups are already taking action.
Teams from Charleston Water Mission arrived in Montego Bay, Jamaica early Sunday morning, equipped with water filtration systems, hygiene kits, and non-perishable supplies to help communities already feeling the storm’s early impacts.
