ATLANTA — A 65-year-old man was shot by an armed suspect who approached his car at a Atlanta gas station on Saturday night, police said.

According to an Atlanta Police Department statement , the victim was shot multiple times and was taken to a hospital in an ambulance in stable condition.

The victim has not been identified, and no suspect information was available.

"Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was seated in a vehicle at 840 McDonough Blvd. SE when he was approached by an unknown armed suspect and there was an exchange of gunfire," the statement said. "Investigators with the Aggravated Assault Unit responded to the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident."
