The Big Ten acknowledged one Rutgers player for his contributions to a vital win over Purdue on Saturday, but not the one most people who watched the game would think.
Scarlet Knights kicker Jai Patel was named the Big Ten co-special teams player of the week alongside Nebraska kick returner Kenneth Williams, the league announced Monday . Patel hit the game-tying and game-winning field goals in the final 66 seconds of a 27-24 victory over the Boilermakers in West Lafayette.
He is the first Scarlet Knight to earn a weekly Big Ten honor since the final week of the 2024 season, when running back Antwan Raymond was named freshman of the week following a career-best performance in a blowout win over Michigan State.
