YORK COUNTY, Neb. (KOLN) - A man suspected of driving under the influence with a child unrestrained in the backseat was arrested on Saturday.

A York County Sheriff’s deputy pulled over a vehicle on I-80 east of York at 1:33 a.m. for a traffic violation.

During the stop, the deputy became suspicious and began a DUI investigation, discovering the driver, 39-year-old Jason Smith of Camas Valley, Oregon, had been driving while impaired, the sheriff’s department said. ‘K9 Justice’ searched the area and and alerted to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle.

The sheriff’s department said deputies conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and uncovered more than an ounce of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A child was also reportedly found lying on the rear passenger floorboard and sh
