DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) -- After years of Dothan City Schools authorizing charter schools, the majority of the school board decided last week to no longer affiliate with the idea of a charter school in the circle city.
"We just didn't see it being the right time for Dothan and all of its students," said Dr. Julie Mullins Turner, Chairman of the Dothan City School Board.
Nate Patterson is looking to bring Dothan its first tuition-free charter school, Time Leadership Academy.
"I just felt like it was a missed opportunity to work together for all children," said Patterson.
Some school board members expressed concerns about funding being pulled away from the school system, but Chairman Julie Mullins Turner says the board doing away with the authorization would remove the liability on the local
