CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Gov. Mike DeWine’s newly announced $6 million driver’s education scholarship program is designed to help more than 10,000 young Ohioans under 21 afford the classes needed to get their licenses.
But the Today in Ohio podcast team isn’t convinced the plan tackles the real barriers behind the state’s licensing crisis.
The timing of DeWine’s announcement raised eyebrows. It came just after the state extended mandatory driver’s ed requirements from age 18 to 21 — a controversial move that critics say increases costs and limits access for young people.
