TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. — Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash that killed a pedestrian early Monday morning in Tangipahoa Parish.
According to troopers, the crash happened around 3 a.m. on Interstate 55 near LA Highway 40 when a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe traveling northbound in the left lane struck a pedestrian who was also walking northbound in that same lane.
Before emergency crews arrived, a 2020 Freightliner also traveling northbound hit the pedestrian in the roadway.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers say both drivers were properly restrained and were not injured.
"As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and the pedestrian for analysis," police said.
