The Odisha government closed all schools in 11 districts until October 30 as Cyclone Montha intensified in the Bay of Bengal.
Moving at 12 kmph, the storm is expected to make landfall near Machilipatnam or Kakinada by tonight.
Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur will see complete school closures, including government, aided, and private institutions. Meanwhile, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Puri districts will observe school and Anganwadi shutdowns on October 28 and 29.
As heavy rainfall and strong winds already affect southern Odisha, district administrations have begun deploying teachers and staff for cyclone management. District Education Officers (DEOs) are coordinating with local departments and acting as nodal officers to ensure swift act
