Delhi on Tuesday conducted cloud seeding in several parts of the city. Cloud seeding, a weather modification technique, is being used in the national capital as a new response to severe smog and persistent air pollution, with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at the forefront of developing and implementing this technology.

As the capital reels under toxic air conditions, scientists hope to leverage this process to induce artificial rain and clear out airborne pollutants.

SCIENCE BEHIND CLOUD SEEDING

Cloud seeding involves delivering substances into clouds to stimulate precipitation. Typically, compounds like silver iodide or sodium chloride (table salt) are dispersed into moisture-laden clouds using aircraft, rockets, or ground-based generators.
