Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martinez has allegedly been involved in a tragic traffic collision which killed an 81-year-old man.

According to reports in Italy, the 27-year-old was driving when he fatally struck a pensioner in an electric wheelchair on Tuesday morning.

It is understood the incident occurred in Fenegro, which is in the province of Como near Inter Milan's training centre, at around 9:40am local time.

Martinez reportedly tried to save the man's life but despite efforts from him and emergency services, the 81-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Inter Milan manager Cristian Chivu was due to hold a press conference later today ahead of the match against Fiorentina on Wednesday evening - but it has since been cancelled.
