Impeachment is the only direct remedy the U.S. Constitution provides to control a president who ignores constitutional constraints and debases the rule of law. Congress’s failure to protect the constitutional powers granted solely to the legislative branch represents an abdication of its own constitutional duty and ultimately reveals a failure in the design of the Constitution itself.

Admittedly, it is unlikely that President Donald Trump will be impeached as long as Republicans retain a majority in the U.S. House.
