A former Yuma County school district staff member is accused of embezzling just over $86,000, resulting in nine felony counts related to misuse of public funds, theft, fraud and forgery.
Mercedes Brena, a former human resources specialist for the Yuma Elementary School District, is accused of conducting three payroll fraud schemes and using district credit cards for personal expenses. The alleged embezzlement took place from 2021 to 2022 and led the district to lose $86,388.
