The Sault Surge opened their season in impressive fashion at home this past weekend, with local swimmers setting 353 new personal best times and earning 49 individual event victories at the John Rhodes Community Centre pool.
In total, 89 Surge athletes competed at the first North Eastern Ontario Region (NEOR) meet of the 2025-26 season, contributing to 147 top-three finishes — the highest total among the 10 attending clubs. The next closest team, the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club, recorded 108.
The competition brought nearly 250 athletes from across Northern Ontario to the Sault, representing clubs from Sudbury, North Bay, Kapuskasing, Hearst, Timmins, Sturgeon Falls, Kirkland Lake, and Temiskaming Shores.
