The Association of American Universities (AAU) on October 24, joined forces with the US Chamber of Commerce in a federal lawsuit challenging President Trump’s proclamation that imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B visa petitions, arguing the measure will cripple research and innovation at America's leading institutions while handing a competitive advantage to global rivals. The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, challenges the proclamation, issued in Sept 2025, which dramatically increases costs for employers seeking to hire new highly skilled foreign workers.
