A 28-year-old Kitchener man has been charged after counterfeit bills were passed at a Guelph bar.

Guelph police said on Oct. 19 staff at an establishment on Woodlawn Road West saw a man with several $100 bills in his wallet and giving them to friends. He attempted several times to use the bills, police said, and would act surprised when told they were fake.

When staff was closing, they found three of the bills with identical serial numbers.

The man turned himself in Monday after being identified by police and was charged with possessing counterfeit money and using counterfeit money.

He will appear in court Dec. 19.
