Gov. Jeff Landry is urging state leaders to reject New Orleans' emergency request for what amounts to a $125 million payday loan as the city grapples with a budget crisis that threatens its ability to make payroll.
The city needs the approval of the State Bond Commission -- which is scheduled to meet Thursday -- to sell revenue bonds for the quick cash infusion.
But Landry in a social media post Tuesday came out against the proposal and urged Republican leaders in the state Legislature to join him.
He also suggested appointing a fiscal administrator to oversee the city's fiscal affairs.
